Some time ago we rolled out the task scheduler for SEO PowerSuite tools that enables you to set most of the tedious daily SEO tasks on autopilot. Here's a quick overview of this function, and some ideas on how you can use it to set your SEO on autopilot.
What’s a Scheduler?
That’s a smart function that lets you set up software tasks to be performed on certain dates, at certain times, or at a certain interval, without any interference on your part. All that you need to do is tap your heels click your mouse 3 times to set the tasks once - and it’ll work like clock!
We started out with Rank Tracker and pretty soon added the scheduler to all SEO PowerSuite tools. Here's the list of SEO jobs you can now run on auto-pilot:
- checking search engine rankings for your keywords
- updating competition, search volume and KEI for your keyword list
- generating and publishing reports (this includes local storage, emailing or web publishing)
- rebuilding project (searching for new links to a site)
- updating data on the backlinks in the project (checking if they are still in place, updating ranking factors, etc.)
- report publishing
- checking if your partners are linking back
- updating ranking factors (Google PR, link popularity, Alexa rank, etc.)
- generating & publishing reports
- rebuilding project
- generating and publishing reports
Throw away your spade
So basically you can use the scheduler to do all the routine SEO spadework for you. For example you can set up Rank Tracker so that it will run daily/weekly/etc. ranking checks, generate the report on new rankings and send a copy to your client and a copy to you.
Here's an example of how you set up the sceduler for automatic rankings checks
Go to 'Preferences' - > 'Scheduler' and click 'Add' to create a new scheduled task.
Step 1: Choose Task Type
Select 'Check search engine rankings' and click 'Next'
Step 2: Choose Projects
In this step you choose the projects that you want to run automatic rank checks for. All the projects you select here will be added to one task, which means they will all be run at the same time. If you want, for example, to run daily ranking checks for one project but only want to check the keywords in another project once a week you'll need to create two different tasks for these projects.
Step 3: Task Schedule Settings
In this step you set up the time frame for your task. There's plenty of flexibility for you to schedule Rank Tracker to best meet your and your client's needs. For example you may confgure the tool to check your rankings
1.Once

- Once
2. Every day

- Every Day
3. Every other day

- Every Other Day
4. Once a week

- Once a Week
5. Every Monday

Every Monday
6. Or even Every Fourth Wendsday of the Month

Every Fourth Wednesday
Then you choose the start time of the task. If you have a large project with a lot of keywords to check it may be a good idea to set the task for the night so that you'll get the fresh data on your rankings together with your morning coffee (I hear Homer Simpson moaning 'Mmmm... Coffee'. Did you hear that too?) Now click 'Next'.
Step 4: Set Scheduled Task Name
You can pick any name. It's just for you to know what the task is about. Now click 'Finish' and you're done. From now on Rank Tracker will be automatically checking your rankings on your selected time frame.
You don't have to remind it, you don't have to check whether the job is done. Your rankings will be checked on time, every time. You can focus on more challenging SEO tasks where your expertise and critical thinking are really needed.
This is just one scenario of how you can use the scheduler to slash your SEO workload. Sure are the are many more ways to make use of this time-saving function. Check out the new version of SEO PowerSuite tools and free yourself of the SEO routine.
