Re-Discovering SEO PowerSuite’s LinkAssistant: 15 Ingenious Ways to Use the Good Old SEO Tool

November 9th, 2012 | | Posted in category SEO Tools

LinkAssistant is SEO PowerSuite's link management and link verification tool. Back in the day when link exchange was big, many SEOs were using it for this purpose. However, now that the SEO trends have changed, LinkAssistant is used in a variety of other ways, which I'm going to describe in this post.

Apart from letting you track and verify your backlinks, LinkAssistant has a ton of other capabilities that enable you to do such things as track links in the guest posts you write, verify your anchor texts and many more. For example, here are 15 web marketing tasks you can do with LinkAssistant:

1. Look for authority sites in your niche

If you're just entering a new niche, LinkAssistant can help you find authority websites and hubs in that niche. Besides, LinkAsssitant will provide additional data about each site, which you can use to locate the most highly-trafficked and thematically-relevant sites.

To find niche-relevant websites, click Search in the top left corner of LinkAssistant's working area and choose either Find sites by keyword research (LinkAssistant will bring you the sites containing the industry terms you enter) or Harvest all URLs located on the webpages you specify (e.g., you can enter a YellowPages page like this one).

You can then sort the websites you get according to their Google Popularity (the number of inbound links found for a site in Google), traffic rank (Compete or Alexa), social media popularity (their Facebook, Twitter and other shares), etc.

2. Monitor your affiliates

LinkAssistant also lets you easily manage a list of affiliate links to your site. You can just paste a list of your affiliates' URLs by creating a LinkAssistant project for your site and going to File -> Import -> Plain text.

Later on, you can preview any partner's website in LinkAssistant's built-in browser, sort you affiliates by their traffic rank, the number of social shares, their IP address, and other factors.

3. Manage correspondence with affiliates

LinkAssistant is equipped with a built-in email client which you can use to write to and receive mail from your affiliates. The software lets you keep your partners' email addresses and your correspondence with them in one program. Besides, it lets you send emails to more than one recipient at a time:

To emails several affiliates at once, select their URLs in the workspace and click Email in the upper left.  Emails will be sent to all the respondents you've selected.

4. Look for guest blogging opportunities

LinkAssistant is an effective means of finding niche blogs, getting a list of the editors' emails and managing your correspondence with those editors. To look for blogs in your niche, click Search, select Find sites by keyword research from the menu and enter your niche keywords + the word blog. For instance, you could enter something like "cooking blog", "gourmet food blog", etc.

5. Track backlinks from guest articles

Using LinkAssistant, you can track links to your site that appear when your guest posts get published on third-party web resource. To import a list of URLs to track, go to File -> Import -> Plain text and add the necessary web addresses.

Later on, you can check if the links are still in place and if the anchor texts are still the same by clicking Verify in LinkAssistant's toolbar.

6. Spot links with nofollow attributes

Whether you're verifying your site's backlinks that come from guest articles, directory submissions, blog comments or other types of online sources, LinkAssistant lets you see which links actually pass you PageRank and which are assigned the nofollow attribute (or are restricted from indexing). To find that out, just run a standard links verification by pressing Verify.

7. Find highly-trafficked advertising platforms

Another purpose you can use LinkAssistant for is to find websites, blogs and other platforms to place your text/banner ads at. Just search for websites according to your niche keywords and include such search terms as "advertise", "advertise with us", etc.

After that, you can check the discovered websites' Compete/Alexa scores (gives you an idea of their traffic), social media popularity, and other factors.

8. Create a directory of your links

LinkAssistant is also geared with a nifty link directory generator, which you can use to create a directory of all the websites your site is linking to and effortlessly upload it to your server. By the way, LinkAssistant-produced directory will match your site's design like a glove. ;)

9. Look for blog commenting opportunities

You can use LinkAssistant to look for blog commenting opportunities pretty much in the same way you can use it to look for guest posting offers. Just click Search, choose Find sites by keyword search and enter you target keywords + the word  blog. You can then use the software's quick search filter to find the URLs that contain the word "blog" in them.

10. Leave blog comments from the SEO tool

As I said earlier, LinkAssistant has an internal browser that can be used to preview webpages in the same way you view them in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or any other web browser. This means you can use LinkAssistant to leave blog comments, too! And, you can even do it without exiting the software.

By the way, not long ago I posted about how to become a blog commenting superstar with SEO PowerSuite. Do check out this article to learn some more blog commenting tricks.

11. Look for forum commenting opportunities

Now, what about forum commenting, can LinkAssistant give you a hand with that? Sure thing! Just type in your niche keywords + the word forum and search for popular forums in your niche. You can also check each forum's traffic, social media popularity and other parameters to determine whether it is worth your attention. ;)

12. Leave forum comments right from LinkAssistant

Just the way you can use LinkAssistant to leave blog comments, you can also use the tool to comment at various niche forums. Just sort the websites using the quick search filter by the word "forum", click on the three-dot button right next to any forum's URL, and the page will open in LinkAssistant's own browser. Then you can go ahead and browse the forum's threads to contribute to the discussion.

13. Track links from the comments you've made

Besides letting you find niche blogs and forums and helping you comment on them, LinkAssistant also allows you to keep track of all the links to your site you've placed in your signatures or in the comments themselves. To monitor and verify those links (as well as the anchor texts), just add the blog/forum URLs to your project via File -> Import -> Plain text and click Verify:

14. Look for high-PR niche directories

If you're looking to list your site in a number of reputable online niche directories, you can easily find those with LinkAssistant. Just hit Search, select Find sites by keyword search from the menu and tick the Enable expert options checkbox in the lower right corner.

Then enter your industry keywords (you can also add keywords like "submit a URL" or "submit a link") and choose to use the directory filter at Step 5. LinkAssistant will look for online directories according to the criteria you've set. Later on, you can sort the found directories by their PageRank and other characteristics to pick the most reputable ones to submit to.

15. Look for niche review sites

Looking to get some coverage at different review websites in your niche? LinkAssistant can help. You can use it to create a list of popular review websites in your niche. For instance, if you've just developed a hot-new video game and are looking for reviews, you can use LinkAssistant to look for websites by keywords like "video games review", "video games news", etc. The tool will get you the necessary types of URLs with the email addresses of people to contact. Now, isn't that great?

As you see, SEO PowerSuite's LinkAssistant module can be used in a whole variety of ways and to perform a wide range of online promotion tasks.
