Check Rank Tracker's new tool for KEI and number of searches and get surprised by other state-of-the-art possibilities.
If you're not new to Rank Tracker, you probably know that earlier it used Overture to get number of searches and help you to pick out the most effective keywords. The poor Overture is dead now, but no regrets — it was old and far toooooooo slow. Now you've got Wordtracker that's rocket-fast compared to Overture. Moreover, it's using another (much more up-to-date!) database.
If you want to be sure you're using the new KEI tool correctly, here's some advice for you:
If you created some projects in Rank Tracker earlier than July 22nd 2008, then by default you've got Overture set to collect number of searches in those older projects. To start getting KEI and number of searches in them, you need to switch to Wordtracker. That's easy, just do two things:
- Update your Rank Tracker to version 4.3 (that's done by a simple restart, or you can always download the newest Rank Tracker from our website).
- Go to Preferences > KEI Settings... and find the Getting Number Of Searches section.
Here in the dropdown menu you must select Wordtracker.

Note: Overture and Wordtracker have values from different databases, therefore, if you update KEI in an old project where you had old Overture's KEI, don't get surprised or confused by results — new results may differ from old ones.
If you're updating results in an old project, to make the new results reliable, update number of searches and KEI for ALL keywords from an old project.
Wordtracker for keyword suggestion
Wordtracker was also added as a tool to get keyword suggestions. Already now you can use Rank Tracker to quickly get Wordtracker's suggestions for all your keywords (just click the Suggest button in the Keywords tab and choose Wordtracker). With our own Developer's API key we enable each user to get 15 new Wordtracker's suggestions per keyword. If you wish to get an unlimited number of suggestions from Wordtracker's huge database, you'll need to create a paid Wordtracker account and get a Wordtracker API key.
