Uploading report to website
How to publish reports online using Rank Tracker
Rank Tracker is equipped with an FTP client letting you instantly upload reports to remote servers. Please click Publish on the Report toolbar to get started.
Publish report command on Report toolbar
If this is the first time you are using the feature, the set-up wizard will ask you to create a publishing profile with your preferences and FTP server settings. When you initiate publishing next time, the wizard will jump straight to profile selection.
Step 1: fill out company info
Please specify the name of your company/business and contact details. The information you enter will be used to sign reports you create.
You’ll be able to edit any of the details later under Preferences -> Company Profile.
Step 2: choose file format
Please select a format to save your report in: Adobe PDF or HTML (great for online viewing).
Step 3: choose delivery option
Set delivery option to Upload report onto a website via FTP.
Step 4: configure FTP settings
Please specify access credentials:
- remote server address,
- your user name,
- your password.
If unsure which details to use, please obtain them from your client (or from your system administrator if you are uploading reports to the company’s server).
If you leave the Configure advanced settings option unchecked, Rank Tracker will try to detect your server settings automatically. If you enable the feature, you’ll be offered to enter them manually.
Step 5: enter FTP server settings
Please specify your FTP server settings: protocol type, port number, and connection mode (active or passive).
You could try the default settings first and contact your system administrator if they don’t work.
Default remote directory
You can specify the name of a directory that you are going to publish reports to (Rank Tracker will open it at the next step). If no directory is specified, all of the folders you have access to will be displayed.
Step 6: specify web directory
Please select a home directory to upload reports to and mark it as a web root. Specify a sub-folder to be used for reports (optional).
Step 7: define naming rules for reports
Please specify how reports uploaded through this publishing profile should be named. Please type in a name to the Add prefix field or use the options below to have Rank Tracker name your reports.
The file’s name can be automatically customized for each report Rank Tracker exports through this profile. There are several ways to do it:
- Append customer’s name. Use the name from Preferences -> Customer Profile in the name of the report.
- Append customer’s website address. Use the URL from Preferences -> Customer Profile in the name of the report.
- Append current date. Use creation date in the name of the report.
- Zip the file. Compress the file into an archive.
Step 8: give name to profile
Please type in a name under which the new publishing profile will appear in your Rank Tracker projects. If possible, please use a descriptive name that explains what the profile is for – e.g. Upload to client server (HTML).
Step 9: choose publishing profile
Please select the publishing profile you have just created.
You can create another profile if you would like to send the report to multiple locations.
Step 10: publishing process
Please hold on while the report is being generated and published. A progress indicator will show you how the task is moving on. You can interrupt the process by clicking Stop.
Step 11: confirmation
You will receive a confirmation message once the report has been uploaded.
