Miscellaneous application settings
Ways to change default interface colors, set-up a proxy connection, increase productivity and more
Setting up a proxy connection
By default, Rank Tracker connects to the Internet directly through the IP address of your computer. If needed, you can set it up to use a proxy server instead. This is done through Preferences -> Proxy Settings. Fill out the fields and click Check to test your new connection.
Choosing a color scheme for Rank Tracker
Rank Tracker offers 5 color schemes to choose from. The selection is available under Preferences -> Color Schemes.
Adjusting the number of simultaneous tasks
Rank Tracker can handle from 1 to 25 parallel assignments. You can access the settings through Preferences -> Misc. Global Settings.
Increasing the default limit of 5 tasks will let you update projects faster. However, more intense searching activity can heighten the risk of a temporary block. Please enable search safety settings to avoid them.
Changing captcha-skipping delay
The time limit you specify here will tell Rank Tracker how long it should wait for captcha entries. If you don't type in a captcha code that appears on the screen during a search (e.g. when you are busy with something else), Rank Tracker will ignore the captcha and carry on with the remaining tasks.
AutoRecovery interval
Whenever you start working on a project, Rank Tracker creates a copy of it for backup purposes. The auto recovery interval is how often this copy is updated.
What happens with the backup copies of your projects? They are normally removed after you exit Rank Tracker. Backup files are used only when the tool closes abruptly (for example, if your computer shuts down in the middle of a search or if the application goes unresponsive). When you restart the software, you'll be offered to save the version from the recovery folder.
| Operation system | Auto recovery folder |
| Windows XP | C:\Documents and Settings\{user_name}\.ranktracker\ recovery\ |
| Windows 7 | C:\Users:\{user_name}\.ranktracker\recovery\ |
| Windows Vista | C:\Users:\{user_name}\.ranktracker\recovery\ |
| Linux |
/home/{user_name}/.ranktracker/recovery/ /root/.ranktracker/recovery/ - for super user |
| Mac | /Users/{user_name}/.ranktracker/recovery/ |
Request timeout intervals
A search engine or a keyword research database may occasionally happen to be unresponsive or take too long to respond (you will find the Read time out error in your task completion logs then). You can define how long Rank Tracker should wait for response before abandoning a task.
