Pulling Traffic Statistics
The goal of any SEO campaign is an increase in traffic flow. By installing a special script called Google Analytics to your home page, you can monitor the number of visits (individual user sessions) each keyword has brought to your site from search engines for the recent 31-day period (checking day excluded).
For example, if you access your account on May 31, you will find the number of visits next to each keyword for the period from April 30 till May 30. Please open the Keywords section of your account to view the statistics.
These data can be easily integrated into your Rank Tracker project and analyzed alongside with keyword research statistics and ranking positions in search engines.
Synchronizing Rank Tracker with Google Analytics
To activate traffic monitoring in Rank Tracker, you will need to synchronize your project with a Google Analytics account created for the same site. To do it, please click Preferences -> Google Account Settings and hit the Click to Enter Google Account Settings button.
A pop-up wizard will guide you through a couple of easy steps.
Step 1: Specify Email and Password
Enter the e-mail address and password that you use to access Google Analytics through a browser.
Step 2: Select Account and Profile
Choose an appropriate account and profile from a drop down list (if there are several of them under your user name). Hit Finish to save your registration data or click Back to return to the previous step.
Once you've saved your account settings, they will show on your Google Account Settings screen and will be used each time you update traffic statistics in your project. You can use the Clear/Change button to edit them.
Google Analytics account settings (just like the rest of your project preferences) will be stored in the project file you have entered them to. They will not be transferred to any other of your Rank Tracker projects. If you manage several domains under the same Google Analytics account, you will need to re-enter your user details to each of the projects.
Updating Mechanism
After you have entered your Google Analytics account details to your project, you are only a mouse click away from a detailed traffic statistics report.
Simply select a group of keywords and click the Visits button on the Keywords toolbar. If you aren't sure which keywords are bringing you visitors, you can import them from your Google Analytics account.
Clicking the arrow next to the Visits button will open a list with groups of keywords you can update:
- current selection,
- all keywords visible in the current workspace,
- all keywords from the project.
This option is also available under the Tools menu.
One more way to get traffic statistics is to right-click on a keyword and to choose the Update Visits option from a context menu that pops up.
Rank Tracker will connect to your account and check how many visits each of the selected keywords has brought to your site over the recent 31-day period.
Once the update process has been finished, you will see the Congratulations window with the summary of completed tasks. Please click Finish to add the data to your project or press Cancel to discard it and start over.
You can use the View logs link to access search details.
All records collected this way will appear in the Visits column in your work area. You can add this column through the Manage Workspace menu if it isn't visible.
