Configuring SEO SpyGlass
Configuring Proxy Settings
If you are using a direct Internet connection, you don't need to configure your proxy settings. However, if you are behind a proxy server, you need to specify your proxy address, port, username and password. If unsure, please contact your network administrator to obtain this information.
To access proxy configuration in SEO SpyGlass, choose Preferences > Proxy Settings... from the navigation menu.
Configuring Search Safety Settings
1. Human Emulation
Human emulation is an advanced feature of SEO SpyGlass that improves the safety of your work with search engines. If you enable it, SEO SpyGlass will emulate the way humans behave when querying a search engine.
This may be necessary in cases when you have a large project with many keywords. The thing is that when you send too frequent and numerous queries to a search engines, it may temporarily stop processing them. The service will be by all means renewed sometime afterwards (depends on the search engine).
To prevent such inconvenience or elevate existing problems ranking checks you can enable Human emulation. To do this choose Preferences > Human Emulation... from the navigation menu
Visit Search Engines Home Page
If you check this box SEO SpyGlass will go the home page of the search engine before placing a query, just like most Internet surfers do.
Enable Human Emulation Delays
When checked this box will tell SEO SpyGlass to wait a while before sending another request to the search engine. The bigger delays you set, the longer it takes to gather data.
Note: You don't need this feature if you have search engine API keys.
2. User Agents' Rotation
User agents' rotation is another feature of SEO SpyGlass designed to increase search safety. You can set up SEO SpyGlass so that it will use a random user agent for each query. That way Google or other search engine will perceive each search request as actually coming from a different person.
By enabling User Agents' Rotation you can prevent temporary blocks of service by the search engines which sometimes occur when you make too frequent automated queries.
To enable User Agents' Rotation go to Preferences > Search Safety Settings > User Agents and select Use Random User Agents feature.
Using Search Engines API Keys
SEO SpyGlass fully supports Google, Yahoo! and Bing API keys.
These keys make sure you never violate search engines' policies, but also limit the number of searches you can perform using these search engines.
With a Google AJAX API key, the number of queries you can perform daily is unlimited, but it will extract only up to 64 results per request. So if you are searching for links you will only get up to 64 links from Google.
To get a Google API key and read more please visit:

If you wish to use a Google or Yahoo! API key within SEO SpyGlass, select Preferences > Search Engines API Keys... from the navigation menu.
Simply copy and paste your existing API key here.
If you don't have a Yahoo! API key that you need use the following link to create a new one:
Configuring Preferred Backlink Sources
Preferred backlink sources are set up per project and SEO SpyGlass will use them whenever you rebuild your project later on.
You can change your preferred backlink sources at any time by selecting Preferences > Preferred Backlink Sources... from the navigation menu. Currently SEO SpyGlass supports 774 backlink sources.
Note: If a search engine that is important to you is not on the list you can request it added, using the link Request more search engines.
Configuring Customer Profile
In Preferences > Customer Profile you can fill in information about your customer. This is a per-project setting so this should be the name of the customer whose website you're optimizing within that project. The program will use these data when generating Reports.
Please specify Customer name, their e-mail, website URL, physical address and logo. This data has to be filled in for each project.
Note: By filling in the Customer profile you give a personal touch to the look and feel of your reports so that your customers feel the report was created specifically for them.
Configuring Your Company Profile
If you go to Preferences > Company Profile you'll be able to fill in the info about your own company. The tool will use this data when generating Onpage Optimization Reports, see an example.
Please specify your company name, e-mail, website, physical address and logo. This data has to be filled in only once, and SEO SpyGlass will use it for all projects.
Note: By filling in your Company Profile you build on your business reputation and gain trust in the eyes of the customer creating a custom looking report.
Editing Stop Words
Stop words are the words such as conjunctions, articles, pronouns, some nouns and verbs etc which are totally irrelevant to the search engines. Since they can't affect your rankings in anyway, you most probably would want to filter them out of your projects. You can do this by going to Preferences > Edit Stop Words...
Here you see a list of stop words that are already excluded from the project. Since the list is by no means exhaustive and only contains English words you can manually add more stop words (one per line) in English or any other language you're targeting.
