hi all, newbie here checking out the trial version although Im compelled to purchase already :O)

My question is,I need to change the links address that is being added into the email requesting a link.
it currently is set to

http://www.f4b.com/skin1/pages/US/links.html/links.html which wont work

I cant find where that has been set. If I look into the Link page settings my link address is set to:

serverlocation/relativepath/f4b.com/skin1/pages/US/links.html

so its not looking at that place to get the URL.. so where is it?

thanks all

As far as I understand, you'd need to change it to serverlocation/relativepath/f4b.com/skin1/pages/US/ (without links.html) -- this will solve the problem.

Hmm... Sorry, but seems that I don't understand the question now Confused Question

If you're talking about the emails YOU SEND to ask for a link exchange -- then this option can be changed on the "Email" tab, "Template" button.

In case you're talking about the emails YOU RECEIVE, then use the option in my previous post -- it should help.

emails I send.. the template still refers to an odd reference link to ask the prospective other site to check their own link.

The link is wrong and I dont know where to find it to change it. Ive ensured Im not putting 'link.html' in twice.

Ive checked the links page edit page but that has a different URL to the one that is appearing on the email .

sorry... to clarify the email template is Reciprocal Link Request.

Whilst writing this note Ive noticed that if I delete the tag and then re-enter it, the content of the tag changes or rather updates itself. This then seems to be the issue sort of resolved.

Lastly, my mail in preview pops up with all text as a link in blue and underlined but if I click on it the 'phantom link' colour changes back to normal. This doesnt seem to be a problem other than it looks odd and is incorrect but I can use the application now.

Thanks for your support

Well, crazyoval, seems like this time I know where the trouble is... Laughing

Please follow these steps:
1) Switch to the "Links Page" tab, click "Edit", and make sure that your link address is set to:
serverlocation/relativepath/f4b.com/skin1/pages/US (without links.html)

2) Regenerate your links pages by clicking the "Generate" button on this tab (you don't even have to re-upload pages, so you may simply say "No" when LA offers you to do so).

3) Check your links - they should work. Do they? Wink

HI again, yes now getting the swing of it, go back and generate the links again and the tags change. All sorted now, also getting used to the features available too, in terms of the categories, in that they are like sub pages of your links page. You clearly can make a very big link campaign using this. I will consider using multiple pages at a later date.

Ive had a few problems getting my head around setting this up with my existing links page and also that the html page I edit isnt the page that the customer sees. So,

1. I took my existing page into Dreamweaver and then copy / pasted the link Assistant code into it, then all back to Link Assistant. So, my page's existing stuff is included.

2. My site is based around x-cart which is a php based ecommerce system. Each page goes through a regenerate process to create all pages as html pages (for better searching and indexing with search engines). So, my links page is called links.html, but by the time it gets to be viewed its called http://www.f4b.com/catalog/Links-sp-21.html .
So that means I need to ensure the CATEGORY is called Links-sp-21.html so that the link request mail that goes out states thats where the prospective partner should look.

Anyway, useful information perhaps for someone in the future.

Hi, crazyoval.

I've heard of x-cart, but havn't used it myself so far, so I'm afraid I don't know much about x-cart. But I've got one question: you say that *Each page goes through a regenerate process to create all pages as html pages*, but... can you make any exceptions of this, and, say, don't regenerate the LinkAssistant's pages? I think this could solve the problem, and there's no problem of SEs' indexing of LinkAssistant' apges since they're HTML pages already.

But, if, for example, you need to put some PHP code into these LA's pages, you can add the following handler into your .htaccess file:
Code:
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .htm
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .html

- thus all .htm and .html pages will be able to execute your PHP code.
