Read somewhere to use a 301 to direct non-www to www so that all backlinks are interpreted by Goog as going to the www version and thus making more backlinks to the www version
However, I just noticed a DRASTIC DROP in pagerank, no lie
It appears that the 301 has INVALIDATED the non-www links
Can 301 redirects hurt pagerank???
Any help MOST appreciated

Scanreg, I really don't know why you got this problem, but I doubt this is due to a 301 redirect you used (unless you did something wrong, which I doubt too.)
To the best of my knowledge, 301 redirect is recommended by Google as a preferred way to move a site. _________________ Search Engine Optimization Software

301 redirects can't hurt the pagerank. It actualy increases it, by cumulating the links received to www domain com with those received to domain.com
Many websites had suffered a major Page Rank decrease on this latest update. I think this is due to some changes in Google ranking formula. _________________ Link Exchange Directory

I guess that might be a possibility but I cannot confirm. The 301 was the only thing I changed and I still wish I could reverse it.

It's not about what you've changed, it about what Google changed Google may not tolarate some things any more...who knows.
Did you encounter a ranking drop or just a PR drop?
