Java Upgrade Mon Nov 12, 2007 12:52 pm
LinkAssistant
Please download and install the latest Java 5.0 version and then run LinkAssistant again - we suppose this should eliminate the problem.

And please DO NOT FORGET TO CHANGE THE DEFAULT VERSION of Java on your Mac from Java 1.4.2 to J2SE 5.0. As it is written at Apple's website "This update does not change the default version of Java on your Mac from Java 1.4.2 to J2SE 5.0. You can change the preferred Java version for applications and applets by using the new Java Preferences utility. This utility is installed by the J2SE 5.0 update at /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/."

So please try install the J2SE 5.0 update, change the default version of Java on your Mac from Java 1.4.2 to J2SE 5.0, and run LinkAssistant once again. This must help solving the problem.

PS: please make sure that the software you downloaded wasn't corrupted while downloading. You might also want to redownload the software once again...

No need to download anything... Mon Nov 12, 2007 2:08 pm

It turns out that Java 5 is already installed, it comes wth Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5).

The only thing needed to get LinkAssistant up and running again was to change preferences in "Java Preferences". It's an application, and you can find it here:
/Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.app

If your OS is non-English, the folder names will be different, but to reach the Utilities folder in any language version you press Command+U in FInder. There you'll find the Java folder.

Inside Java Preferences you simply change the order of JVMs so "J2SE 5.0" is the topmost, in the section about applications (don't bother with the one at the top about applets).

Thanks for the answer though, it got me started down the right path!
