How do I import rankings history from other tools into Rank Tracker?

Rank Tracker supports import of your site's rankings from CSV files. This feature can be used for importing rankings from any ranking software that has CSV support. But before you start importing your historical results into Rank Tracker it is required first to adjust the CSV file to a specific format.

  1. Rank Tracker allows importing only 1 ranking date at a time. This means that if you need to import 10 ranking dates for a keyword (or list of keywords) you need to create 10 separate CSV import files: each file should contain the same list of keywords but with the ranking results only for the date you are going to import.
  2. The CSV file should obligatory contain the following columns: Keywords, Search Engine Rank, Ranking URL. For example, the CSV file with the results for 3 search engines should look as follows

When your are ready with the CSV files, you can start importing your ranking history into the Rank Tracker project file.

How to import rankings to Rank Tracker

  • Unzip the archive and create a new project in Rank Tracker for the site under consideration (or open an existing one).
  • Click File-> Import-> Ranking History CSV. In the opened window select the CSV file.

Import rankings from a CSV file

Step 1. When you open the CSV file - you will see its content in rows and will be able to select the row to start import at. The first couple of rows can contain a title and column headers (you needn't import those).

Select your CSV report

Tell the program the number of the row to import the required information only: keywords, rankings and URLs and not the names of the rows (e.g. Keyword, Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Google URL, etc). For example if your file looks like is shown on the screenshot above - you need to start import from the 2rd row.

You may leave the set encoding by default (UTF-8) or select the encoding that was chosen when exporting the CSV file and hit Next.

Step 2 enables you to assign its own name to each column so that Rank Tracker could understand what information this or that column contains. Use drop-down menus marked "do not use" (by default) to do that.

Please be attentive and assign the right name to the right row. Select the corresponding delimiter (comma by default). After you've done that - you will see a table with the names of the rows, keywords, results and the URLs.

Specify the name for each column

Note! You need to import the ranking data in pairs: both rank and URL found. If done incorrectly - you will see a notification.

If everything is right - you will be forwarded to Step 3, where you will be able to choose a date of the check (select the date you chose when exporting the CSV file).

Selecting the date of the check

Step 4 will validate the information and indicate the status of the importing.

Step 5. Here you can choose which keywords you want to include into the project. Uncheck any of the keywords you don't want to be imported. This is very useful if you don't need to export the entire file but some of the keywords from it.

Final step

After you've done that - the selected keywords and their rankings will be added into the project.
