Google PR unavailable Tue May 06, 2008 2:22 pm

I'm finding that even while using human emulation and checking the random user agents, and putting in my Google and Yahoo API's running reports STILL ends up leaving the Google PR unavailable when trying to run an expert project with more than one domain.

The first time I tried it, I plugged in 10 domains, but all the way down to trying it with just two domains, this keeps happening.

With PR unavailable, the entire report then becomes pretty much worthless for determining link value, and then I find that the Google PR no longer shows in my toolbar either, usually for a full 24 hours.

I assume this is a result of too many queries in a short time from my IP address, correct?

I also know that you have proxy use integrating soon to combat this problem... Can you tell us when?

In the meantime, are there any specific suggestions for properly setting the human emulation time delay minimums that will definitely prevent this from happening?

Are there are there any other suggestions for preventing this?

I have had the same problem lately .... Sometimes I can't even do a google search from my web browser without getting a warning that I am maybe a bot.

First, I've emailed google and complained and that has worked -- I act like I am clueless just a frustrated computer user. Second, and I don't know why this works but I have run the individual search engines by themselves and this seems to work.... Not sure why...

There has been a Google Dance recently. I am still waiting for a number of applications to settle down. Im not sure there is much that we can do but wait. That is what I have heard from others too. Its really odd this time around, its as if Google has done something quite different with their algorithms. Im not sure anyone knows yet what has gone on, but I think we will find out soon that something new is involved in how Google ranks pages. Thats my 2 cents

As we're testing the software here, we have no problems with extracting PR if we're checking up to about 5,000 backlinks. When checking more backlinks at a time, it's possible to run into problems. However, if you have a problem extracting Google PR, it normally won't last long - only about 30 minutes.

Collecting Google PR is independent from Google or Yahoo! - so while Human Emulation, User Agents and APIs are really useful, sometimes they do not prevent the problem like yours. The best way to aviod these delays while collecting Google PR is to collect it for not too many backlinks at a time, probably for each project separatelty.

PR gone Wed May 07, 2008 3:18 pm

This morning I began running a report on all three though upstairs, and now an hour later I'm sitting here on my downstairs computer and I've lost the page rank in my toolbar again, like has been happening every single day been every day.

Over the past five days I've pretty much determined that running this software on even one domain,
checking 1000 links on each engine, four US Google, US Google blogs, and US Yahoo all three at the same time kills my ability to see PageRank. I guess will try running all three independently, Yahoo, Google, and Google blog, but I will have to wait until tomorrow again...

I use the SEOquake plug-in for Firefox to get quick overviews of the top 10 on a page of results, and I just turned it on, and Google PR is showing as N/A. This is frustrating

if trying just one engine tomorrow does the same thing I will have to figure out how to use a proxy upstairs.

I know for many of you "proxy use" is fundamental, like using a mouse, but for some reason I just cant get it. there is usernames and passwords and accounts, and stuff I just don't understand. the last time I messed with proxy use was a few months ago, and if I remember correctly, I would find a proxy that seemed to work and the next day it wouldn't, and it was a big pain in the neck. That was only on Firefox using something called foxy proxy.

The reason I haven't used SEO Spyglass more are because of stuff like this, and tying up the computer (to a degree) for a while.

Even though I bought the enterprise version, I'm may not be alone in saying that I would pay an additional monthly fee if there were a Web application that would run these off your servers and deliver my projects to me by e-mail, that I could then open and sort to my hearts content with your software. Might that be an additional revenue opportunity for you guys down the road?

Hi cyber49,

Unfortunately the specific of any SEO software is such that there is a big risk to get into a trouble like yours - getting no results. And though your situation with PR is very rare, this is one of the cases when you need to use a proxy. Sad

We do understand that configuring a proxy requires some background knowledge and is not easy for some of our users. For this reason, our developers are working at a new safety feature that will apply proxies automatically and will save you a lot of trouble. This will require some time though, but we will do our best to add this feature asap.

This is a really great idea - thank you for sharing it. However this will take a real lot of time to implement and we don't think this will be possible in the near future.

Still no PR for too many sites Mon Jun 02, 2008 11:15 pm
cyber49
I've found that with large competitors websites that have lots of backlinks, the software is almost useless because it forst stops reporting PR, and then it also kills my toolbar PR for the rest of the day...

So, my question is, how long before we can expect to see the automatic proxy use enabled?

Still working at it...
In the meanwhile please use your own proxy settings (you can specify them in Preferences -> Proxy Settings).
Also, when the software stops collecting your PR, you can wait for some time, then use the update button to collect PR for the links where it's missing.

Proxies not working for me Sun Jun 15, 2008 3:20 pm
cyber49
I'm not sure why, but searching for free proxies online I find plenty to use, but cant get them to work.

Although It LOOKS like it should be simple, can you please explain the process, or send me a link to something in your support?

For example, I search for a free proxy, and get shown is number like this
123.45.678.90:80
or like this123.45.678.90:8080

Would I then put it into SEO Spyglass like this? -
123.45.678.90
then choose the port to be 80 or 8080, or whatever?

Anything I try won't seem to work anyway...

1. Can you explain the process for me, 'cause i'm apparent'y dense here.
2. Can you tell us where to get a list of proxies that might actually work?
3. Can you guys pm me with just one free proxy try, so I know it's not some weird thing with my ISP or something blocking ports?
4. Finally, can you tell us when we might expect to see auto-proxy integration? What month are you hoping for? Are you even planning it for 2008?

I feel like spending the fee on the enterprise version was a complete waste of money, because it only works for a short while each day. After that, it kills our ability to even look at PR on any sites at all.
