I bet you already know this, but you need lots of quality backlinks. An excellent way to find them is by first analyzing your top competitors using SpyGlass (www.link-assistant.com/seo-spyglass), then using LinkAssistant to get the actual links. _________________ Search Engine Optimization Software

The Page Rank Of A Website depends solely on your inboud links. The PageRank of a website is calculated with the help of the following equation:
PR(A)=(1-d)+(PR OF LINK PAGE 1*D/NO OF LINKS IN PAGE1)+ (PR OF LINK PAGE 2*D/NO OF LINKS IN PAGE2)+.....+(PR OF LINK PAGE P*D/NO OF LINKS IN PAGE P).
Where A,is your website
D is a damping factor =0.85
link page 1,2...,P are the pages that has a link pointing to your website and can be found out by conducting a search on google with link:www.website.com.
Proper Link Exchange is the perfect way to improve your page rank on the net.A good page rank ensures better traffic which further enhances the website prospects on the net. _________________ MarketRaise Corp.

I'd just like to make a little warning about this table:
all numbers in this table are calculated according to the original PR formula, which was actually used by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in their very first experiments (and Google didn't even exist as a company). Nowadays Google's algo is MUCH more sophisticated, so this table gives you a VERY ROUGH approximation when it comes to real life. _________________ Search Engine Optimization Software

The reason for posting that table is that I find it to be very accurate. You can make a small experiment.
Get a PR5 link to a brand new site and you'll have a PR3, get a PR7 link and you'll have a PR5.
I admit there are also some other factors involved, like: how many outbounds are on that page, your own internal linking scheme, penalties that your site may encounter etc.
Anyway I don't know why people are still obsessed with Page Rank since is not an important factor in the ranking formula.
My site has PR1 and it ranks top#10 for many popular terms (suck as "Link Exchange Service") above sites
that have PR6 _________________ Link Exchange Directory

You're absolutely right. PR is just one of the factors that possibly used to be importnat one day, but nowadays it is not so importnant as most people think of it. _________________ Search Engine Optimization Software

Is page rank going to matter for much longer with what Google did?
This is all quite confusing.
I have a site http://www.actransportonline.com that's for my business and all I'm trying to do is consistently built links, drive traffic, so on, so I can focus on actually running my business.
Outside some fundamentals most of these issues, like page ranks, quickly turn into hi-tech voodoo.
