I tried to submit a sitemap using different kind of services and the latest attempt with SOFTPlus GsiteCrawler but google doesn't accept my submissions.

The error I get is this.

Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

I submitted the sitemap.xml and the header looks correct to me:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="gss.xsl"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"

Any suggestions to what is wrong and what sitemap generator do you guys use. Is there any good script that you can set to automatically update the sitemap now and then?

What is the file extension of your Sitemap? It should be .xml

Also I would suggest just building a Sitemap using sitemaps.org, theirs will work.
