Search Trends: The Easiest Way to Find Trending Keywords in 2025

Search trends don’t stay still for long. What’s popular one month might be old news the next — and while everyone’s focused on yesterday’s winners, new keywords are quietly gaining momentum.

If you’re still relying on static keyword data, it’s easy to miss these shifts. You might target a term that’s already losing steam, or overlook one that’s just starting to rise.

That’s exactly why we built the new Search Trends feature.

Update SEO PowerSuite now
to leverage the new Search Trends feature

It’s part of our ongoing effort to make SEO PowerSuite more responsive to how search really works today. In the past months, we’ve added deeper Google Search Console integration, enhanced SERP analysis, and made content editing more intuitive — all with the goal of helping you work smarter and stay ahead.

Now, with trend data built directly into your keyword workflow, you can see how interest evolves over time, catch short-term spikes as they happen, and prioritize the keywords that are actually gaining traction — not just those that were popular last quarter.

So whether you’re looking to:

  • Find trending keywords in your industry
  • Plan content around seasonal demand
  • Avoid sinking time into topics that are fading

...this update gives you the real-time context you need to make better decisions.

Keyword research used to be simple: pick a topic, check the search volume, and go after it. But search behavior has changed. It’s more dynamic, more unpredictable — and moving faster than ever.

A keyword that’s trending today might fade out next month. Meanwhile, new topics are gaining traction quietly, just waiting to be discovered.

To stay ahead, you need more than just numbers. You need to see how interest is changing over time — and use that momentum to guide your strategy.

For instance, consider the search terms "12-3-30 workout" and "Hyrox training". The "12-3-30 workout"—a treadmill routine popularized on TikTok—experienced a significant surge in search interest in early 2023.

However, by late 2024, its popularity had waned considerably. In contrast, "Hyrox training", a competitive fitness race combining running and functional strength exercises, has seen a steady rise in search interest, reflecting a growing and sustained interest in this fitness trend.

Understanding these trends helps in:

  • Identifying fresh trending keywords before they become saturated.
  • Recognizing fad keywords that may not offer long-term value.
  • Distinguishing between evergreen keywords and those with declining interest.

Incorporating trend analysis into your SEO strategy ensures that your content aligns with current search behaviors, maximizing visibility and engagement.

The new Search Trends feature in SEO PowerSuite gives you more than just keyword search volume — it reveals how interest in a keyword is changing over time. Whether a topic is heating up, holding steady, or fading, these trend signals give you the context you need to make smarter decisions about what to prioritize.

This is especially useful if you’ve ever wondered:

  • How to find trending SEO keywords before your competitors
  • How to know trending keywords that are actually worth building content around
  • How to avoid wasting time on topics that have already peaked

By default, the trend insights are visible in all keyword research modules to give you a clear picture of keyword behavior over time.

Here’s what each metric reveals:

12-month search volume trend graph

Download Rank Tracker

Visualizes how a keyword’s popularity has changed over the past 12 months. It helps you identify seasonal patterns, long-term growth, or steady decline — crucial for planning campaigns around actual demand cycles.

To see a detailed month-by-month breakdown, simply hover over the trend graph.

3-month change

Download Rank Tracker

This compares the most recent month’s search volume with that of two months earlier. For example, if you're looking at July, the change is measured against May — giving you a clear view of how interest has shifted over the past three months. It’s ideal for spotting emerging trends early or identifying keywords that are starting to lose momentum.

Visual trend indicators

Each keyword is tagged as rising, stable, or declining. No need to interpret charts — you can prioritize at a glance and spend less time on analysis.

Together, these columns help you stop relying on outdated data and start reacting to real-time search behavior. It's how to find trending new keywords — and avoid betting on the wrong ones.

To get started, open your project in Rank Tracker or create one from scratch.

By default, the new search trend columns are visible in all keyword research modules. If you don’t see these columns, right-click any column header in your workspace, find and add Trend and 3-Month Change (Trend) metrics.

Once added, you can refresh the trend data whenever you need in bulk — it's instant and unlimited. This can be done both ways – by clicking the spinner icon in the column header or by updating SEO/PPC data for the whole workspace.

You can also use filters to find keywords with upward momentum – try 3-month change (Trend) > 1000:

Or isolate evergreen terms with consistent trend graphs – set the filter to 3-month change (Trend) = 0

The great news is that the Search Trends data is easy to export as well. Quickly export the data in CSV or any other format to use in client reports, editorial planning, or cross-team analysis.

Whether you’re building a content calendar, launching a new product, or optimizing existing pages, these tools help you quickly zero in on what matters right now.

The Search Trends feature is included with all paid SEO PowerSuite licenses

If you're using the free version, you can still access trend data by connecting your Google Ads account. However, Google only provides full access to keyword trends for accounts that meet certain ad spend thresholds — typically those with an active monthly budget.

To get full, unrestricted trend data without additional requirements, a paid SEO PowerSuite plan is the simplest and most reliable option. It gives you instant access to search trends, unlimited data refreshes, and the ability to export trend insights directly into your workflow.

Trend data is powerful on its own — but where it really shines is when you start applying it to your day-to-day SEO work.

Here’s how the new Search Trends feature helps you make smarter decisions across your SEO strategy — from keyword planning and content creation to local optimization.

By filtering for keywords with high 3-month growth, you can instantly uncover topics that are gaining traction now — even if they haven’t hit their peak yet. It’s the easiest way to find trending keywords your competitors haven’t written about yet.

This is particularly useful if you’ve been asking:

  • How to find trending keywords on Google
  • How to know trending keywords worth investing in

2. Plan around seasonality

Trends let you see the natural cycle of search interest throughout the year — ideal for surfacing seasonal keywords and planning content in advance. Whether you're targeting summer products or holiday campaigns, you'll know exactly when to publish and promote.

Once the preferred keywords are picked, you can use SEO PowerSuite’s Content Editor to craft SEO-optimized, ready-to-rank content.

3. Spot rising and declining keywords

Some keywords are slowly climbing in relevance; others are past their prime. With trend graphs and change indicators, you can spot both.

Download Rank Tracker

This lets you:

  • Prioritize rising keywords that promise long-term returns
  • Retire or update declining content before it starts losing traffic

4. Identify evergreen keywords

Not every topic needs to be trendy. Trend data also helps you spot evergreen keywords — terms with consistent interest year-round that are perfect for cornerstone content, FAQs, or long-term campaigns.

5. Detect fad keywords

Short-term spikes can be exciting, but not everything that’s trending stays relevant. Use trend graphs to spot fad keywords that are popular for a moment — and decide whether they’re worth a quick content push or better skipped altogether.

6. Optimize your local SEO strategy

Keyword trends often vary by region. If you work with location-based content, Search Trends can help you detect when and where interest in a local topic is starting to grow — so you can publish timely content that speaks directly to your target audience.

In Rank Tracker, you can easily set up a precise location as granular as the exact street address.

7. Build smarter topic clusters

Use trend insights to develop topic clusters that combine long-term interest with trending subtopics. For example, a page on “email marketing” can be supported by trend-based articles on “AI email tools” or “email marketing trends 2025” that spike seasonally or during tech launches.

Download Rank Tracker

To navigate large keyword lists more easily, use the Keyword Grouper tool to organize them into meaningful clusters.

8. Monitor competitors and react faster

By keeping an eye on keyword trends in your space, you can see what topics your competitors are targeting (or ignoring). If you notice them jumping on a trend — or overlooking one — you can adjust your own strategy quickly.

Download Rank Tracker

This can be easily done via the Ranking Keywords module in Rank Tracker – enter the domain of your competitor, and you’ll instantly see all the keywords your competitor ranks for.

9. Fuel your content and social calendars

Want to align blog content with what’s trending online? Use trend data to find topics that are picking up now and publish before they peak. This works especially well when syncing SEO with social campaigns or influencer pushes.

10. Discover top keywords by industry

Looking to find top-performing keywords in your niche that are still growing? Use the trend graph and change indicators to sort through your industry’s keywords and surface the ones that are trending — not just historically popular.

What’s next for trends?

This first version of the Search Trends feature is just the beginning.

We’re already working on several enhancements to make trend analysis even more actionable and predictive, including:

  • Mobile vs. desktop trend splits
Understand how keyword interest differs by device, so you can tailor your content and UX strategy to match your audience’s search behavior more precisely.

  • Trend forecasting
We're exploring ways to provide predictive insights — helping you see not only where a keyword has been, but where it’s likely to go.

  • Deeper integration with GSC and external sources
Combining trend data with your own performance metrics (via Google Search Console and other sources) will help surface smarter content and keyword decisions.

These updates will continue to expand how you track what’s trending, how quickly demand is shifting, and how to react with the right content at the right time.

Because SEO isn’t just about matching what people are searching for — it’s about staying in sync with where their attention is going next.

Find the best keywords in seconds
with 20+ keyword research tools

The Search Trends feature shows how keyword popularity changes over time. It includes a 12-month trend graph, a 3-month change indicator, and visual signals (rising, stable, declining) to help you spot trends, avoid fading topics, and prioritize what’s gaining traction.

You’ll find it in Rank Tracker, within any keyword workspace. Simply add the “Trend” and “3-Month Change” columns to your view. In some workspaces, these columns appear by default.

Use filters such as “3-Month Change > 1,000” or sort by rising trend signals. This will help you surface keywords that are gaining interest right now.

Can I use this feature with a free plan?

Yes, but with limitations. Free plan users must connect a Google Ads account. However, Google only provides full trend insights to accounts with consistent monthly ad spend. Paid SEO PowerSuite plans provide full access without these restrictions.

Is the trend data real-time?

Yes. You can refresh the trend data at any time, in bulk, with no limits.

How do I know if a keyword is evergreen?

Look for a flat trend graph over the past 12 months and minimal change in the 3-month comparison. These are strong candidates for evergreen content.

Can I export keyword trend data?

Yes. You can export trend data in CSV and other formats for use in reports, content planning, or client deliverables.

Trending keywords are growing steadily and may have long-term value. Fad keywords spike quickly but usually fade just as fast. Declining keywords are losing interest over time and may no longer be worth targeting.

Final thoughts

Staying ahead in SEO isn’t just about knowing what people are searching for — it’s about knowing when that interest peaks, and how quickly things are changing.

With Search Trends in SEO PowerSuite, you now have a clear, time-aware layer built right into your keyword research. Whether you’re looking for fresh trending keywords, spotting seasonal shifts, or planning content that meets real demand, this feature gives you the insight to move faster and with more confidence.

It’s all about helping you make smarter decisions — not six months from now, but right now.

Open your project. Add the trend columns. See what’s rising in your niche today.

Because when it comes to search, timing isn’t everything — but it’s close.
