Updating SEO/PPC data

Rank Tracker lets you update and work with a wide variety of factors that may facilitate your keyword research process: check KEI index, do competition assessment, update search volume, Cost per Click, expected visits and some other factors. Most of these metrics are based on data taken from Google Adwords Keyword Planner Tool.

Rank Tracker provides 2 mains sources to collect SEO/PPC data from Google Ads:

  • via SEO PowerSuite index;
  • via your personal Google Ads account.

Using SEO PowerSuite Keyword Index

SEO PowerSuite index is the fastest and safest way to collect search volume and keyword suggestions from Google Keyword Planner. This method is set by default in all new Rank Tracker projects, so it does not require any additional configurations to be enabled.

However, some old projects might still be using your personal Google Ads account, so to switch into using SEO PowerSuite keyword Index do the following:

  • Open the project in Rank Tracker and navigate to Preferences – SEO/PPC data -> Google Ads tab.
  • Set the Google Ads Source into SEO PowerSuite Keyword Index.

Using personal Google Keyword Planner account

In some cases you may want to collect search volume stats via your personal paid Google Ads account. To be able to connect it to Rank Tracker follow these steps:

  • Open the project in Rank Tracker and navigate to Preferences – SEO/PPC data -> Google Ads tab.
  • Set the Google Ads Source into My Google Ads Account.
  • Click the Connect Google Ads button and enter your Google account credentials.

Note that Google AdWords account is a project-specific setting. You can connect different accounts to each project individually or have one account duplicated across projects in other SEO PowerSuite tools by enabling synchronization of settings.

Updating SEO/PPC data

Once you connect your Google Keyword Planner account you may update SEO/PPC-factors as follows: go to Target Keywords > Rank Tracking section and click Update SEO/PPC Data.

In the dialog box will you can specify the number of keywords you wish to update and also select the exact factors to be updated.

Alternatively, you may update the same SEO/PPC factors under the Keyword Map section.

Checking SEO/PPC data allows updating the following factors:

  • KEI (Keyword Efficiency Index): one of the key factors for a successful SEO campaign because it helps you determine the usefulness and efficiency of your keywords. KEI indicates the ratio between competition and search volume. The higher is the KEI number - the more profitable a keyword is for your SEO campaign.
  • Search Volume (#of searches): the average number of searches for a keyword and its close variants in Google over the last 12 months. But default the search volume numbers are collected from Google Keyword Planner tool, but you may change this source into Yandex Wordstat under Preferences - SEO/PPC Data - Yandex Wordstat tab - enable Use Yandex Wordstat for number of searches.

  • Competition: the number of advertisers that are showed in Google for the keyword relative to all keywords across Google. By default, competition numbers are collected from Google Keyword Planner tool, but you may change the source under Preferences - SEO/PPC Data - Competition tab and enable Collect Competition from Search Engines - then select your preferred search engine in the menu.

  • Expected Visits: approximate number of visitors you may expect to receive from a keyword if your site is ranking #1 in Google for that word.
  • Cost per Click: (the amount of money you have to spend to get an advertisement clicked) of a Google Ads Pay Per Click campaign for a certain keyword. The data is gathered from Google AdWords.
  • Estimated PPC cost/mo: the estimated monthly cost of a Google Ads Pay Per Click campaign for a certain keyword.
